In this way they will become increasingly responsible for their progress towards their target. In year 8 pupils are grouped via ability, so each lesson caters the varying needs of each pupil. The year 8 curriculum allows the pupils to develop their skills further from year 7 by performing the same activities with the addition of Gymnastics.

Year 9

In year 9 our curriculum offers pupils the opportunity to have a direct impact on what they are taught. Year 9 is our Option year, and pupils will choose a specific pathway for learning based on activities covered in years 7+8. The emphasis is on identifying whether the pupils learn more by being creative or through adopting strategies and tactics.

Creative Route

The pupils will be involved in activities that promote creativity. They will be expected to accurately replicate actions, phrases and sequences, as in gymnastic and dance activities, explore and communicate ideas, concepts and emotions, as in dance activities. They will also have the opportunity to be creative in their approach to games activities.

Tactics & Strategy Route

The pupils will be involved that promote the solving of problems to overcome challenges of an adventurous nature, as in outdoor activities. They will also be involved in the solving of a range of scenarios in order to outwit opponents in a games based approach.

Both routes will allow the pupils to work to maximum levels demonstrating good speed, strength stamina and suppleness. They will also be expected to evaluate any performances suggesting methods for improvement.
