Homework
Regular, purposeful homework plays a crucial role in reinforcing classroom learning. It supports the retention of core knowledge, develops students’ ability to recall information over time, and fosters key skills such as organisation, resilience, and self-discipline. This structure is designed to ensure homework is structured, manageable, and impactful.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)
Homework will follow a structured two-week timetable, ensuring a balanced distribution of subjects. The timetable can be found on the school website and within your child’s homework booklet.
- Students will complete 40 minutes of homework daily, divided into two 20-minute tasks.
- Homework will focus on knowledge organisers, which contain the essential knowledge students are expected to learn. These are issued half-termly.
- Science, Maths and Spanish will use online platforms, including Sparx and Educake.
- All homework will be completed in a dedicated homework book.
Students are also encouraged to complete 20 minutes of reading for pleasure each day, which is vital in supporting literacy and academic progress.
Monitoring and Support
Homework Booklets will be checked weekly by form tutors and the online platforms will be checked by the subject leads. Students’ knowledge will be reinforced through short quizzes during form time. Students need to bring their Homework Booklets into school each Monday.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
Homework will be set weekly by subject teachers and will support GCSE preparation through:
- Exam-style questions
- Directed revision tasks
- Online platforms such as GCSEPod, Sparx, and Up Learn
Completion will be monitored by teachers and faculty leaders.
Rewards and Expectations
Students will be recognised through Virtue Awards for consistent effort, and exceptional work will be celebrated in assemblies. Where homework is not completed on three occasions, students will attend a half-hour after school homework rectify session which will follow the same process as detentions.
