Ampleforth Yr 8 & 9 Retreat

Students from Years 8 & 9 enjoyed their first residential retreat experience on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 November at Ampleforth Abbey.

Staff and students received a warm and friendly welcome from Fr Kentigan. A welcome to Alban Roe House ‘our home for the duration’ was followed with a tour around the Abbey Church. In addition to being introduced to the Robert Thompson mice it also included the relics of St Lawrence and the opportunity to visit the Crypt.

The Theme of the retreat was Finding Your Hidden Treasure after reflecting on the Pearl of Great Price using discussion, crafts and games. Students responded brillianbtly to Mr Kerrison’s invitation to explore the Red Wednesday Appeal for Aid to the Church in Need using media – Watch this space! Mrs Kernan led the craft sessions offering the opportunity to discuss their ‘hidden treasure’ and decorate their own treasure box. Students had the experience of seeing ‘another world’ according to St Benedict and embraced the invitation to quiz Fr Kentigan on his life as a monk.

Chill out time was enjoyed by all with popcorn and delicious hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows before ending the evening in prayer by candle light in the chapel.
