Survival Sagas: Mission Catastrophe and building Literacy

Our Year 8 students took part in the Young Writers’ Competition based around the notion of global catastrophe and how to survive. We spent a number of lessons considering the ramifications of a global event catastrophe and how we could cope with it before embarking upon a 500 word story.

Event organisers praised our students’ use of “perception, imagination and creativity” as well as “expression, originality and use of language”.  Over 24,000 entries have been received and the entries of 21 of our students was deemed good enough for publication in the new book “Mission Catastrophe – West Yorkshire Tales”.
