eSports Final Results

On Wednesday 11th April, 12 pupils along with Mr Ward and Mr Tariq went to London to compete in the UK schools Esports Grand Finals.  This was after winning the regional Final in March in Manchester.

Unfortunately we didn't return home with the winner's trophy under our arm, but the atmosphere on the train journey home was still one of jubilation.

'Veracity', consisting of Harrison and Bailey Barber-Scargill and Josh Love, all from Yr 12, are the 3rd best Esports school team in the country at 'Overwatch' - a completely different game to that which won them the title last year.  It was mentioned more than once on the day that none of last year's finalists, except us, made the cut this year - the professional players were amazed that we had got this far.  Similar to any sport, you tend to specialise in one game in Esports, so to be up there competing at this level in two games is fantastic!

On top of this, our 'shoutcasters' (game commentators/pundits), Kris Vilcinskas and Sonny Wilcock from Yr 8 were commentating with pros and really holding their own, and Callum Bond, Yr 10,  pretty much ran the show, working with a number of behind the scenes crew as an 'observer', someone who runs the in-game camera, making sure what the audience in the studio and online saw was high quality.

The rest of the pupils that came to support (semi-finalists and runners up in our school-based competition) were as amazing as we know they are - polite and considerate throughout the day.

I am genuinely proud to be associated with SJF everyday, but this was a little bit special - it's been an absolute treat!

Please do congratulate the pupils involved if you see them around school, they are truly and deservedly buzzing after their efforts.
