School Careers Advisers
In addition to the curriculum work around careers, our careers advisers provide careers advice and guidance to any students in Year 7 – 13.
Our school careers advisers are Debra Casson (in school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) and Rob Crookes (in school on Monday). The careers office is at the entrance of the Hive, up the stairs by M8.
All students in KS4 will receive an Individual Careers Guidance appointment. These will begin in May of Year 10 through to May of the following school year. Sixth Form students can request an individual appointment. You will receive an appointment card during form time or we will come and find you in class.
What is a Careers Guidance Appointment?
It is a conversation with a careers adviser to talk about your future. It is your appointment, so you need to think about what you most want to talk about.
We might suggest some things it would be useful to discuss, for example you may want to talk about getting an apprenticeship or going to sixth form or college. Maybe you want to know where your A level subjects could lead or find out about how to get into your chosen career.
You may have no idea what you want to do so it can help to think about your strengths and weaknesses and your likes and dislikes before finding out how these fit into different jobs.
You are the one who decides what you want to talk about.
Careers guidance will:
- Help explore your career ideas and the options available to you
- Provide you with up-to-date information or show you how to research it yourself
- Give you realistic and impartial advice so you make informed decisions
Towards the end of your careers appointment, if needed, you will agree on an action plan with your careers adviser. Your action plan sets out:
- Where am I now?
- Where do I want to go?
- How can I get there?
- Who can help me?
