The Chaplaincy

Welcome to the Chaplaincy at St John Fisher! I am the lay Chaplaincy Coordinator, Elly Fiddler. I started in June 2023 and look forward to working with the school and community in Dewsbury and surrounding areas.

The Chaplaincy at St John Fisher is a key part of fulfilling the school’s mission. The Chaplaincy is here to support staff, students and their families to engage with the Catholic Life of the school and the wider community.

Students are encouraged and challenged over their time at St John Fisher to engage with their faith through acts of individual and collective worship. These take place each day in registration, through weekly assemblies and over the year with a number of opportunities for Mass and Class Liturgies.

The Chaplain is situated in the Chaplaincy Office just off the Chapel offering an open door policy and being available to all members of the community, accepting people for who they are and making it safe for them to discern their life situation, their potential and their view of the future. The Chaplain aims to encourage aspiration and individuality amongst young people, and encourage them to take their Catholic attitudes, skills and knowledge into the world, their careers and their home lives. They, then, can become a power house of change for the better, in turn serving those around them and in the wider world in fulfilment of Gospel values.

The Chaplaincy works to manage and co-ordinate charity fundraising awareness, events and service opportunities and engage and stimulate students’ development of their gifts and talents in both their local and global communities as they accept the invitation to live out their faith in words and actions.

We look forward to welcoming you into our school for Masses and liturgies when the opportunity allows. Please do let us know if you have any special intentions that you would like us to pray for as a whole school community, or if you would like a loved one’s name adding to our remembrance wall.
